Resources Checked: I checked online searches resources such as Lexis Nexis and Google Scholar. I also explored the Europa website. Finally, I hunted for potential resources in the library main stacks.
Search Topic: For my topic, I am researching the effects of the European Union on the integration of European markets. I searched terms such as “European Monetary Union”, Euronex, Euro adoption, and European markets.
Sources Found: I found several books in the main stacks that will be usable. My most interesting one is titled “The Economic Performance of the European Union.”1 It is publish in 2009 to ensure that it will be able to reflect on the long-term effects of the third stage of the EMU. The chapters cover a spectrum of topics specifically the effects of Euro adoption and monetary policy integration. The diverse authorship seems respectable and are edited by European and American Scholars.
I also came across the European Central Bank website2. I found it informative on two levels. First it provides educational materials and summaries of EMU actions. This offers concise explanations of different proposals. It also has a log of the actual directives of the EU and the ECB. I would like to use these as primary sources.
Through the search engines I found an array of relevant journal articles. “The Financial Market Integration of Europe”3 from an a economist at the European Central Bank and “The Euro Effect on the Integration of the European Stock Market”4 directly relate to my interests in how the EMU has integrated European markets.
Lastly, I will likely consult Larry Neil’s “The Economics of Europe and the European Union.”5 He is obviously a credible voice. The reading assignments from this book were interesting. Although the writing is fairly dense, it is chalk full of facts and historical analysis.
