There are three great articles in this book; Barrie Pierpoint's Heads Above Water: Business Strategies for a new football economy, Ken Foster's European law and football: who's in charge?, and Pay Day's The administration of football in the twenty-first century. Each is tremendously well-written and provides great insight into the changing business and legal landscape of European football. Ken Foster's article was particualry informative and is the most useful for my topic as it goes into great detail about the relationship between sport and the free labor policy in the EU.

This is a wonderful article which provides background information related to the Bosman ruling which transformed the soccer transfer system in Europe. The article next goes into great detail explaining multiple legal opinions issued by the ECJ related to UEFA's transfer system and the various legal challenges UEFA and FIFA have sponsored against the Bosman ruling.

Source: Extra time: are the new FIFA transfter rule doomed?
Author: Drolet, Jean-Christian
Date: January 2006
Publication: The International Sports Law Journal
This article argues that there should not exist a uniform sporting law in the EU. The author goes into great detail about the Bosman (football) and Kolpak (cricket) rulings. The main argument by the author is that laws like Bosman and Kolpak have resulted in less competition in domestic leagues and the decline in the ability of national sport federations to develop young talent.
